Peter, Guy, Mark and I are really excited about it and looking forward to playing and we hope it's going to be a very special show. Hopefully we'll have some very special guests joining us on the night, too :)

So would love if you could make it!

'Refuge' in Atlanta GA.

I just got back from a wonderful trip to Atlanta GA where I invited to play a show as part of a pre Grammy night they had organized at The W Hotel downtown. The Devlins hadn't played there for a few years so it was fun to go back and do a gig. Thanks to everyone who came out and I hope I get to go back again very soon. I was hanging with Big Boi from Outkast who seemed like a very nice guy so my street cred has 'skyrocketed' no doubt in the ATL (I'm the one on the left). I also got to visit Cee-Lo's studio the night before as my friend Tim was mixing his record there and in honour of Cee-Lo I did a version of his excellent song 'Fuck You'. I love that one, I actually ended up doing it twice on the night I like it so much.It really works on acoustic guitar ! That man has a superb voice.I also attempted a version of Janelle Monae's Cold War but I'll need a little more practice on that one i think.

I also had the opportunity of shooting some footage for a video we're putting together for 'Refuge'.The W Hotel very kindly let us use their Helipad on the roof of the building (not for the faint hearted) which was a lot of fun. My director friend Chris White very kindly helped out at short notice with the filming so thanks Chris.

I'm heading to Montreal very soon to do some writing with my producer Pierre Marchand which I am looking forward to immensely. Pierre is such a creative person to be around and I have a huge respect for his talent. I'm excited about it. I also love Montreal in the winter, it's a very special city and I have some great friends there who I'm looking forward to spending time with so I'll let you know how it all goes!

I hope this finds you all well and reasonably happy and thank yo as always for your messages and  support.

Take care,

Colin x.

Atlanta Show confirmed for Jan 27th.

A Belated Happy New Year to you all, I hope it's off to a good start...

I've decided to join my good friend Bob Blumer in his January abstention of alcohol which is going very well so far except for the one minor slip up (we're all allowed one).

Anyway,  I've set Jan 27th as my day to enjoy a glass of wine or two which coincidentally coincides with my trip to Atlanta for a solo acoustic gig organized by my journalist/activist friend Kristi Wooten
I'll be getting back to my southern hip hop roots for sure, so if you know any folks down that way please let them know, I'm hoping it will be a good night.

I'll be updating with more news soon.

Take care,

Colin x.

Snowed In.

Hello,

I'm snowed in here deep in the Irish countryside during a turbulent week in the history of our great nation and thought what better time to give a little update on what's going on, as trivial as it might be in the greater scheme of things! Between Bailouts and Budgets it's all been pretty heavy stuff here over the last couple of weeks but i was happy to be around to witness it first hand.

I came home to play at the new IMTV awards which took place last wed night in Dublin, I was nominated for an award and performed two songs ('The Heart Won't Be Denied' and 'Waiting') at it also.It was cool to meet some new musicians and bands that i hadn't heard before and i really enjoyed the night.I also got to spend some time with my family which was great.Hopefully I'll be here again early in the new year for some shows,I'll keep you posted.

When I get back to LA I have a couple of film scores to work on for my friends Sebastian Lopez and Pat Hartonian, both incredibly talented directors who I'm delighted to be working with. It's a new area which I'm really enjoying exploring and I'll be updating progress as I go.It's a whole different discipline to songwriting.Pat's new movie 'Protocol' will be finished soon and the Trailer should be released this week.Sebastian's new short movie 'The Killing Joke' is coming together also, It's gonna be scary!

I want to go play in Brazil! Ive been receiving lots of emails from fans down there recently asking me to come and do some shows and I would love to make it happen. If any one has any ideas let me know!
I want to do lots more touring in 2011 so that would be a nice way to start!

It's been a good couple of months with tv syncs as well with my music being used in One Tree Hill,Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy coming up in a couple of weeks I think, I always enjoy seeing how they use the songs in their 'dramatic' story lines!

Anyway, there is plenty of exciting stuff in the pipeline and I'll be letting you know about that in the near future.Pierre Marchand and I are planning on getting together to do some writing in the new year also, so I'm really looking forward to that as well. Not to mention getting to see all my good friends again in Montreal.

I hope this missive finds you well and thank you as always for all your wonderful support, I love to hear from you so feel free to drop me a line any time...

Take care,

Colin x.

The Meteors etc

Hi,

I'm back in LA after a great trip home to Dublin for the Meteor music Awards. It was nice to see so many familiar friendly faces and catch up.Lights, camera action..

I went to the  Irish Film and TV awards also while i was home to support my friend Brian Byrne
who won best original soundtrack for his score for John Carney's movie Zonad.
Brian and i wrote and recorded the soundtrack for this excellent short recently entitled Vertical
if you want to have a look.

My only regret is that i didn't get to play any shows but hopefully we will remedy that soon,i'm looking at booking some shows in around may/june and hopefully some mainland Europe dates as well.

I'm planning to record some cover versions of some of my favourite songs over the next couple of weeks
so i will let you know how that goes,i'm just doing it for fun to see how they turn out, maybe in will inspire me with my own stuff who knows..Suggestions are welcome of course as there is bound to be a couple  out there that would suit my voice that i don't know about!

Don't forget to check out  the new short film made by Sebastian Lopez in and around Buenos Aires
for 'The Heart Won't Be Denied'.It's on the site or you can check it out here at Sebastian's Vimeo page,
the man is superbly talented.

I'm off to see The Crazies...

Take care,

 Colin. x

Thanks for all your support during 2009 and to everyone who came out to the shows throughout, it means a lot.
As a little New Year gift we're giving away ‘Live In Toronto’ to all our subscribers.

A simple acoustic recording we made last February at the Glenn Gould Theatre when I played there with my good friend Emm Gryner who joined me on piano and vocals on ‘Democracy Of One’. I hope you enjoy it.

2009 was an interesting year and I hope 2010 will be even better with more touring and recording on the cards! Speaking of which, I recently finished writing and recording the soundtrack for Sebastian Lopez's short movie entitled ‘Vertical’. Sebastian who is from Buenos Aires directed the ‘Raise The Dead’ video for me. Check it out HERE
_________
In December I performed at an exclusive show in London as part of a new project set up by Kenny Laurenson called SecretConcerts.com. It was incredibly well organized in a huge loft apartment with excellent visuals and sound. It's a great concept and we're hoping to do more if we can find hosts who'd like their own private concert at home.
Find out more at www.secretconcerts.com
_________
I've been asked to play at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in Jan as part of a select showcase they do in conjunction with ASCAP. Im hoping to tie it in with some snowboarding which I last did when recording in Montreal.!
_________
Of course a big thanks to Kenny,Graeme and Selina for doing such an amazing job in keeping everything running and moving forward in respect to the website / photos / artwork / music etc. Untied Artists indeed..

Also, I have been nominated in the 'Best Irish Male' category for the Meteor Awards!

AND THAT'S THE WAY IT IS..

Hi Guys,

I hope this finds you all well?

it's going to an exciting couple of months ahead so i wanted to talk a little bit about what's
going down..

1/ Irish Tour!

The Irish tour has just been announced for Nov/Dec which i'm really looking forward to.
It's going to be performed as a three piece with Peter Devlin and Guy Rickarby.
I'm excited about playing the new songs with the guys and reinterpreting some Devlin's songs
which we're currently revisiting. (requests are being taken..)
It'll be totally different from the last series of acoustic shows i did with Fiachna earlier in the year so it's always a fun and challenging to keep things fresh.

Please spread the word if you can about the shows and again, thanks so much all for the kind words about Democracy Of One over the last few months,it means alot and for continuing to spread the word on what i'm doing.

2/ Democracy of One now available on i-tunes worldwide!.. so for all of you people in Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Israel and Mullingar there's no excuse!

3/ Democracy Of One single to be released!
I'm releasing DO1 as a single to radio to coincide with the Irish tour,so hopefully we'll
be hearing it on the airwaves for those people who listen to the wireless!

4/ And finally: Another couple of dates in LA in October. Largo on Thurs Oct 8th, Special guests confirmed so far are my good friend, genius composer, arranger and orchestrator Brian Byrne. It'll be the last one of the year in LA
and I'm hoping will be the best so far. www.largo-ca.com

And on Sunday 4th I'll be taking part in TRES ! It's a twice-monthly series created and curated by acclaimed songwriter Chris Richards, featuring three songwriters performing together in a laid-back, in-the-round setting // Venue website: http://www.faisdodo.com/

Looking forward to it.
Keep in touch.

Much love,

Colin. x

I want to 'Rock With You'.

Hi Guys

A FEW THINGS I WANTED TO MENTION..

1) Following on from my tour of Ireland in Feb to promote Democracy of One i've decided to do some more shows in Sep.

I've just confirmed a Dublin date for Fri Sep 11th at The Sugar Club and will hopefully be adding more Irish dates happening around that time over the coming weeks.

There is a possibility i'll be playing the Electric Picnic too so i'll keep you updated.

So really looking forward to seeing you at these shows,i'm not sure yet whether i'll do them
solo or with some friends,we'll see how it goes!

2) Democracy of One will be released in the UK in Sep also and we're planning a London show sometime around the middle of the month and i'll be trying to tie in some European dates around this time also which should be fun!

I'm always open to suggestions for gigs from people so if you've got ideas let me know,
and maybe we can make it work.Obviously the more interesting and exciting the better!

3) I'm trying to put together a tour of the East Coast of the US and Canada for late sep/early oct so will keep you posted on that and again suggestions of cool intimate places to play are welcome.

It's been a strange week here in Los Angeles with all the Michael Jackson hysteria.I guess the only positive thing is that we now fully realise his genius.Miles did a long time ago.

I've lots more news but why tell you all at once?

Speak to you soon.

Keep in touch and thanks for listening.

Much love,

CD x.

Blues for MJ

Rehearsing in Santa Monica

Monday, 1 June 2009

HELLO

I hope this finds all of you lovely people well.

I’m writing this from LA where it’s sunny of course and people seem to have taken their swine flu masks off. Just wanted to let you know what's going on...

There’s lots of great new things up on the website including downloads, very cool T-shirts, new photos/videos and Kenny has a book idea in the works with some seen and unseen photos from the shoots we’ve done together, I think,he’s been busy!

http://www.colindevlin.com

I’m planning to put together some US dates over the next few of weeks so keep checking the tour page for details, it would be great to see you at the shows.
The tour of Ireland in Feb/March went exceptionally well. We had a lot of fun doing the shows and it was cool to be out playing the songs from Democracy of One.
I hadn’t been home for a while and it was great to have had such a positive reaction to the album. We also had a lot of radio airplay on Raise the Dead without too much hype which I was obviously delighted about. I have to thank Tony Fenton on Today FM for being the first to play it, believing in it and getting the ball rolling..a top bloke.

Strategies will be the new single in Ireland so hopefully people will get to hear it in all it's glory....

Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows, it was great to see you, the support really means a lot. It was of course a real honour to have my good friend Fiachna O'Braonain join me onstage every night, it made it extra special for sure. It was lovely to have Emm Gryner as my special guest, she's incredibly talented and a really lovely person.

We’ve set up a youtube channel with lots of video clips some of you may not have seen; www.youtube.com/colindevlinmusic
There is also a lot of talk about heading back down to Buenos Aires to make a video for 'What Good Is Love' following the success of 'Raise the Dead' directed by Sebastian Lopez.

Anyway,i'm really looking forward to getting back on the road and doing some more shows. I have decided it’s time to break out the electric guitar which I’ve been missing. It may involve piano playing too... It's been a while since I did US dates outside of LA so that will a lot of fun.
I’m also planning to do some more Irish and English dates in September.

So make sure you subscribe to the newsletter and we'll keep you informed.

Take care,
Colin x.

IT'S GONNA BE FINE IN 2009...

Hi,
I just wanted to say thanks to everybody for the amazing response to the Pre-Launch limited edition of "Democracy of one" and for all of the kind comments, we're really happy that people are digging it and love to hear from you.

The first months of 2009 are going to be pretty busy starting with an LA Largo show on Sat Jan 24th. Following that, Montreal on Feb 5th and Toronto on Feb 7th where my friend Emm Gryner has asked me to be her special guest at the Glenn Gould Studio Theatre. If you don't know Emm already check her out, she's great. www.emmgryner.com

I kick off an eight date Irish acoustic tour on Feb 12th, ending in Dublin at the Sugar Club on Feb 27th, so spread the word, the dates are up on the website. I'll be joined onstage by my good friend Fiachna O'Braonain on guitars and atmospherics and special guest for the tour will Be Emm Gryner who I believe will be playing solo piano which should be great.
I'll be back in the States in March making plans for a tour.
We've been recording and filming the Largo shows so there is talk of a live DVD at some point in the year..! We've had a lot of fun doing those shows and I've had some fabulous guests, my 'regulars' ; Michael Brook and Jeremy Ruzumna and also Gemma Hayes, Steve Reynolds and Ricky Warwick to name a few. It's a really great candlelit listening room -just one atmospheric, ambient room mike picks up everything - truly 'unplugged' in the real sense of the word. Mark Flanagan and Michael Griffee who run Largo deserve a special mention, they have a great vision for the place and have been very kind to me over the last few months. Let's hope they go from strength to strength this year.

The focus this year will be the official release of the album. Kenny Laurenson, his brother Graeme and I are not only working on a reconfigured website but also pioneering with a completely new model for the release of the album, getting it out there and connecting with the fans.
With the world in what seems like Economic meltdown and more doom and gloom greeting us every day i think music is more important than ever to help get us through what will undoubtedly be tough times. No one can take it away from us.
I wonder where Ireland will be socially and economically in five years time? I hope that we'll return to appreciating what really matters in our lives (a little more than we have done in recent years)... family, friendship, empathy and great F**king music!

I hope you all have a decent 2009 despite the rain.

Take Care,

Colin x.

HELLO FROM COLIN.

Hello everyone and welcome to the new site!
I'm excited about finally getting it online, I'm really happy with it.

I want to first thank Graeme Laurenson for working so hard on putting this site together and to his brother Kenny who has been a great inspiration and support over the last few months, taking photos and art directing the website amongst other things.Well done guys you've done a fantastic job..

I've just confirmed more dates in LA at Largo on sep 17th and 24th and at the Hotel Cafe on Sep 20th which I'm really excited about. It's great to be playing the songs from the new record 'Democracy of One' in a live situation.
I played my first show recently in the new Largo which is at the old Coronet theatre on La Cienega Blvd here in Los Angeles. I was joined by my good friend Jeremy Ruzumna on organ, piano, and by the great guitarist, producer and film composer Michael Brook. It's been cool to reconnect with Jeremy who used to play with The Devlins many years ago and is such an amazing player.
And to have Michael play was a real honour,he's incredible and also makes the best coffee in Hollywood.

I'm hoping to do as much touring as possible in the coming months so if you have any ideas or suggestions please let me know, I'd love to hear from you.

On the video page of the site you can see the clip we recently made in Buenos Aires with my director friend Sebastian Lopez and his editor wife Sabrina. And also a short film Sabrina directed and put together to explain a little bit about the new album. The story of how I ended up there making these pieces with them is a great one so I'll save that for the next blog|

So, I hope you enjoy the site, we'll be updating it as much as we can, and we'll have the store page up soon too as we're planning for you to be able to download or buy the album directly from the site. Kenny is working on lots of other stuff for the store too so it will be fun to see how that develops!

Finally, please join the mailing list on the "Contact" page so that we can keep you notified of events and blogs and perhaps strange goings on in the wonderful world of Hollywood etc..

But most of all I hope you enjoy the music... my friend Pierre Marchand has done a wonderful job producing 'Democracy of one' and I can't wait for people to hear the complete record.

all the best,

Colin. x

The first 'blog' ever!

OK this is just a test to get started!
